We've been talking about the Big Tigger Celebrity Weekend for a few weeks now.
The celebs are in town, and the message is clear.
At the opening presser for the 9th Annual Celebrity Classic held at Pose Nightclub at the National Harbor's Gaylord Resort and Hotel information, along with personal testimonies from individuals living with HIV/AIDS filled Friday’s WPGC Morning Show hosted by Big Tigger. (Read our coverage here).
DC has the highest rate of AIDS cases. Statistics show 1 in 16 Black males are affected by the virus, and the virus has grown among Black women as well.
As the evening wore on more celebrities and professional athletes became more visible, the likes of which included Vince Carter (who mentioned he's not watching the NBA Finals), Braylon Edwards (almost unrecognizable wearing a robust, almost full-sized beard), and Redskin Larry Johnson.
They gather each year (some returning, some new) to help Tigger spread the word about HIV and AIDS while encouraging DC residents, especially the youth, to get tested and to know their status.
The three-day community event, that includes free AIDS testing, also involves actors, recording artists, and local government officials.
Prince George's County executive Jack Johnson named June 11, 2010 as Big Tigger Day in Prince George's County where the celebrity weekend event is being held for the first time since its start in 2001.
The day continues with a block party starting at 1:00 today at Kastles Stadium.
The annual celebrity basketball game begins at 6:00 pm.
