Perky In Pink, Mystics Prevail

Win 81-75 Over Minnesota

Donning pick uniforms, The Mystics scored big points by addressing the topic of breast cancer awareness today at the Verizon Center, and again by scoring a win over the Minnesota Lynx.

Crystal Langhorne led the charge for the Lady Mystics with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while the trio of Ajavon, Coleman and Melvin scored 11 points each, with Melvin also pulling down 7 rebounds in the contest.

Alana Beard, who sustained a sprained left ankle, topped out with 13 points, in front of Lindsay Harding’s ten.

"She's been playing through a lot of pain right now, said head coach Julie Plank of Alana. "That's what a lot of teams are doing this time of year."

Charde Houston was the high scorer for Minnesota with 20 points, followed by 19 points by Roneeka Hodges.

Minnesota ranks 4th in the Western Conference standings.

The Mystics (13-15) lost their two previous games before Sunday’s contest. However, with tonight’s win the Mystics regain a chance for the playoffs, ranking number five in the Eastern Conference behind Chicago and Connecticut.

The Mystics get a three day hiatus before facing Seattle at home on September 3rd, and taking to the road during the Labor Day holiday - facing Chicago and Indiana - before returning home on September 12 for Fan Appreciation day in a game against Atlanta.
