Commanders new head coach, Dan Quinn, wants to "kick a*s" with "elite" players.

“I so wanted this moment,” said Dan Quinn about getting the call that would seal his position as the next head coach of the Washington Commanders.

In an introductory press conference with the media Monday Quinn says he wants to “kick ass, and have fun while doing it”, and he wants to do that for a long time.

We hope his ‘kick ass’ mentality means getting wins and having fun while WINNING ‘for a long time’.

"I’m not going to use the term rebuild", said Quinn - a term that fans have heard repeatedly for the last decade, or more, with previous Commanders' regimes.

“I’ll say we’re going to recalibrate”, he said.

Is that code for he’ll need at least 5 years to get this ‘recalibration’ thing going before we see anything substantial?  (Filing this under ‘we’ve heard that line before’).

Owners say they interviewed Quinn twice, and it was like “we had a connection.”

The hiring was branded as an alignment between ownership, GM and the franchise. (OMG! I think I’ve heard that line, too, from previous Commanders' regimes!)

Quinn said everything checked when making his decision to accept the offer.

“This was the flashing light, this is the moment”, Quinn said.  “This is the one.”

“I got to see how Adam works and how he bonded with coaching connections.”

Coaching connections, or good ole boy network?

One of which OC Eric Bieniemy apparently is not a part of, as he was given the boot.

“I respect his work and I wish him the best”, said Quinn. But said “he won’t be with us in DC.”

So happy that EB is gone, one DC sports show host expressed his gladness over the Bienemy departure from the franchise by saying this:

“I’m glad he’s gone, now I can have my name back”, he said, as the two share the same initials, EB.

Bieniemy was here for one season.  He wasn’t even given the chance to ‘recalibrate’ after one season.

But back to Quinn and his wooing the media this afternoon.

Quinn also said he was impressed with Washington’s defense, but “you have to have elite players", he said.

Quinn wants explosive plays and physical energy players who can make forced fumbles and get sacks as he talked about channeling bold and aggressive players.

Where will he get such players?  Do we have such players already in the Commanders’ coffers? (Two former players are playing in the 2024 Super Bowl his Sunday.)

Maybe Quinn can draft a few elite players in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, which he claims he hasn’t given much thought to just yet.

Until then, can we just talk about the elephant in the room? (Did I bury the lead, or did I just save the best part for last?)

The record of Dan Quinn does not read like that of an ‘elite’ head coach. Quinn was fired, mid-season, from his duties as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Owner Arthur Blank even said his inability to win games was the factor for his firing Quinn.

Darn! Did Washington get used goods again?

Can a non-elite head coach (NEHC) get elite players to play for him? Does a NEHC even know how to turn non-elite players into elite players?

The Commanders also hired Joe Whitt, Jr. as the defensive coordinator, along with Kliff Kingsbury as the offensive coordinator, replacing Mr. Bieniemy.

Isn't it ironic that Commanders fans spent years trying to rid a Dan from the franchise, but end up getting another Dan at the helm?

Like I tweeted earlier today, until I see some substantial wins in the W-column (the dub column) this upcoming season, I’m not drinking the Commander ade.*

And neither should YOU!
