A month away from pre-season competition, will the Washington Football Team be ready?

All eyes will be on the Washington Football Team, for multiple reasons.

With the regular season schedule cemented and the pre-season game with the New England Patriots less than a month away, the DMV is waiting to see if their beloved NFL team (without a formal name to speak of) has what it takes.

Jason Wright, the team's president, in a message to fans in his President's Briefing writes that the team is moving forward:

"With Training Camp around the corner and the 2021 season nearly upon us, we feel the momentum building. During this offseason we have made significant progress in our rebrand journey and are entering a very exciting phase. We are now down to a short list of final names based on our strategic approach, research process, and insight phase. We will continue to rely upon the insight and support of many of you as it moves forward to a final decision. As a team, we are confident that our new brand identity will honor our legacy and lead us into our future as a franchise."

The 'new brand' has shaken off a few familiarities.  For one, its owner has been relieved of his ownership duties (for a time) as his wife, Tanya Snyder, takes the helm as co-CEO. The selection came after bombshell revelation that employees had sexually harassed multiple female employees.

The team has taken strides to make the organization a more diverse one. In adhering to the NFL's steps to enhance diversity it hired its first Latina coach, Ron Rivera and hired Jason Wright as the team's (and the NFL's) first African American president. The team also hired its first female coaching staff member with Jennifer King, assistant running backs coach.

Kyle Allen is the team's selected QB in front of Taylor Heinicke after the team parted ways with Dwayne Haskins.
