Franchon "The Heavy Hitting Diva" Crews is calling on the DMV to help her raise money for individuals affected by kidney disease.
Crews, one of the DMV's most noted female boxers, is a three-time World Champion and 2012 Olympian. She is also preparing for the 2016 Olympics.
Her latest effort, and perhaps most important, is TEAM #KnockOutKidneyDisease W/ The Heavy Hitting Diva. #KOKD.
Writes Crews, "A lot of young people and minorities are not educated about kidney health so my goal is to use my notoriety and passion for kidney health to bring awareness to the issue. The National Kidney Foundation of MD is one of the main reasons my mother is able to have the resources she needs to survive so I am happy to volunteer and support this organization in anyway possible. Your generous support ensures that NKF-MD can continue to support kidney patients, their caregivers and provide awareness, preventative education and treatment options to the community."
An added twist to her campaign is that she will tower 28 stories off the roof of the harbor east Marriott Hotel in a feat she says will help her conquer her fear of the disease.
"There have been times when I've set in the hospital with my mother not knowing if she was going to make it through the night. So on June 6th I will be a representation of conquering that fear by rappelling 28 stories off the roof of the harbor east Marriott Hotel...YES SPIDERMAN STYLE!"
Crews joins other DC sports figures in the fight against diseases, and says proceeds from her campaign will go to The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland.
