Dinged Up, The Redskins Must Show Up

**Latest Update**
McNabb Gets Contract Extension (And One Heck of A Birthday Present!)
It can't get any better than this. The Redskins extend the contract of quarterback Donovan McNabb.

In a confirmed statement from McNabb's agent, Fletcher Smith, the potential Hall Of Fame quarterback would receive $88m over five years, $40 million guaranteed.

Breaking it down: The deal, which locks in McNabb until 2015, includes $40 million guaranteed and could be worth up to a maximum of $88 million, including $10 million in incentives. The deal averages $15.5 million per season, according to the source.

Redskins Face Eagles In Prime Time
With seven (count them) players on today's injury list, and all of them listed as 'questionable' for the Redskins vs Philadelphia game Monday night in 'prime time', are the Redskins down, and out?

Coming of a bye week, fighting injuries of its key players, and recovering as an organization after head coach Mike Shanahan confused the world of professional football two weeks ago, this team has to find a way to lick its wounds and give the fans their greatest performance of the season's second half. And find a way to win.

Which players are questionable for Monday's game? Brandon Banks (knee), Stephon Heyer (ankle), LaRon Landry (Achilles), Donovan McNabb (Hamstring/Groin), Brian Orakpo (Back), Clinton Portis (Groin), Ryan Torain (Hamstring). The good news is more than half participated fully in today's practice, with the other few seeing limited participation.

Shanahan said of Banks, who had knee surgery during the bye, that he may be "a game time decision".

"You don’t want to push him too hard, but if he’s ready to go, he’ll be ready to go.”

Shanahan is playing it safe with Portis (groin injury), who is feining to play Monday night, making sure he doesn't overdo it.

"We just have to make sure we’re smart relative to his injury."

On a good note, Ryan Torain is expected to play Monday. He had been recovering from a hamstring injury.

The Eagles have a few injuries too, although not as many as Washington, which on paper may put them at a better advantage than the home team. With Philly's Nate Allen out with a neck injury, Max Jean-Gilles recovering from a concussion, and cornerback Ellis Hobbs out with a hip injury, the list leaves a hole (albeit a smaller one) in the Eagle lineup as well.

One thing is for certain. Their quarterback is ready. Vick is coming off solid performances, getting that necessary (pivotal, even) pass protection that the Redskins continue to struggle providing to their own quarterback.

Shanahan calls Vick "a heck of a player" saying Vick can throw a ball 75 yards down field. He warns his safeties to be ready.

"Our safeties better be way back when he throws it. That's all I can tell you."

The Eagle defense wants to remedy the mistakes of their week 4 showing with the Redskins. One mistake was allowing McNabb a 57 yard pass to Anthony Armstrong that gave Washington a chip-shot field goal for a 17-3 lead.

"We don't want to look like this no more", said Eagles' defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.

The Redskins defeated the Eagles in Philadelphia, 17-12, in their first meeting since McNabb was traded by the city of 'brotherly' love to Washington.

Traded by Philly, and berated in Washington, it will be interesting to see the mindset of McNabb come game time Monday.

Note of interest coming from Shanahan this week after practice, on whether his decision to bench McNabb in the Detroit game two weeks ago was a good decision.

"Sometimes, as I have said, you make decisions you feel are in the best interests of your team, not always right. Sometimes you go with your gut, but the bottom line is you make it and you go on."

Is he finally admitting that his benching decision was NOT in the best interest of the team?

"If I am, I probably wouldn't tell you anyway."*
