D. Hall Day: Cornerback's Four Interceptions Help Skins Win In Windy Chi-Town
"Yesterday was a Pretty Special Day for me but it came w/ the most important benefit. A 'W'!"
That's what Redskin cornerback DeAngelo Hall tweeted earlier today after coming off his most impressive performance of the season with four interceptions (one garnering a 92 yard touchdown in the third quarter), as the Skins (now 4-3) defeat the Bears (also 4-3) 17-14 in Chicago.
DeAngelo Hall catches 1 of 4 receptions against Chicago during the Redskins 17-14 win.
Hall's repeated interceptions (one caught with one hand, mid-air) off Bear's QB Jay Cutler had Chicago fans (Okay, us too) wondering what was going on between the two men. Was it the day of throwing 4 interceptions? (Brees also threw four). Or is Cutler just fond of DeAngelo Hall so much that he wanted to help Hall tie the NFL record of 4 interceptions in a single game?
Cutler, shouldering most of the blame for the loss said of Hall's four picks, "I've played against him before. There's no reason to shy away from him. That's hard for me to say after throwing four picks to a guy. Still, if we had to play them tomorrow, I'd still go after him every time if we could."
Huh?
Hall is having a remarkable season thus far as he approaches his 27th birthday next month (19th). (He also scored a TD in a 13-7 defeat of rival Cowboys at home).
Some say yesterday's came wasn't a "pretty win". We've had a lot of that this year. But watch yesterday's hightlight video and decide.
Sure there were some mishaps. Gano, after a successful 46-yard field goal that gave the Skins a 10-7 lead early on, missed a 37 yard field goal(heard around the world. Boingk!) attempt that could have given the team a 20-14 win. There was the ball that ricocheted off LaRon Landry's head and into the hands of a Bear's receiver. There was Donavan McNabb's medicore performance and thrown interception inside the Bear's red zone.
But let's give the team credit for the getting the win.
Enter Albert Haynesworth.
Haynesworth who was benched last week (decidedly by coach Shanahan) during the loss to the Indianapolis Colts, came up big yesterday in the second quarter when he leaped over Bear's center Olin Kreutz and guard Edwin Williams, shoving Cutler backwards, preventing him for passing for a would-be touchdown. The play caused a Bear's fumble, which linebacker London Fletcher recovered.
This team is showing flashes of competitiveness when the right pieces of the puzzle are out there on the field.
Portis, who continues to recuperate after a groin injury in game 4, did not play (or travel with the team) on Sunday.
No worries.
Ryan Torain stepped up handsomely (even with the fumbles), running for 125 yards on 21 carries.
When was the last time #26 did that?
That fact aside, the team gets another unlikely win, in another unlikely fashion.
It wasn't a beautiful win, but a win nonetheless.
As Skins' defensive end Adam Carriker said after the game, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Behold...another win for the Washington Redskins.
