Alana Beard will undergo ankle arthroscopy and ankle tendon repair surgery next week. She is expected to miss the entire 2010 WNBA season.
“We are disappointed for Alana because she is committed to doing whatever it takes to help our team to win. She is one of the hardest working players in the WNBA, so we are confident in a full and speedy recovery and look forward to having Alana back on the court during the 2011 season” stated Taylor.
Adding, "For us, we're lucky in that it happened before training camp and early enough for us to prepare mentally and physically," General Manager Angela Taylor said. "It gives a lot of people an opportunity to step up. With Alana we had the best perimeter in the league. But now there will need to be a lot of players willing to step up and play a greater role than they have in the past. Our goal is still that Eastern Conference championship and making it to the WNBA finals. We'll just have to refocus."
Beard has been plagued with injuries for the last several season that range from a shoulder injury (2007) to a hamstring injury (2008).
Alana was added to the 2010-12 USA Basketball Women’s National Team roster. She
averages 9.5 points-per-game, with 2.5 assists.
