At Least In These Parts

Just when you thought Daniel Snyder and Vinny Cerrato were joined at the hip, we hear this news from Redskins Park.

Vinny Cerrato resigned* this morning as Redskins VP of Football Operations.

Cerrato was fired in 2001 from Skins, and was rehired by Snyder in 2007. Cerrato has served as the club’s executive vice-president of football operations for the past two years, and previously served in five different roles, beginning in 1999.

For most of the dismal season fans, reporters, and anybody with a voice, had been wishing Cerrato out of the Redskins organization.

Looks like they're getting an early Christmas wish, come true.

“We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position,” said Cerrato. “I’m thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I’ve been given over the years.”
“Of course, I am disappointed with this year’s results, but I strongly believe that with outstanding draft picks and encouraging performance by our younger players, we have laid a strong foundation for the franchise.”
In parting Cerrato says,
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with some great coaches such as Joe Gibbs, Greg Blache and Sherman Lewis, great people on the Redskins staff, and, most especially, some of the best professional football players in the world. I wish them all the best. I’ve also had the privilege of working for a franchise supported by the most loyal fans in the NFL.”
Question is, who will be his replacement? Word is (and rumors have it) that this guy may be a candidate.

Earlier this year, Holgren stated in an interview, "I'd really love to try football on the East Coast."

Another part of the organization equation that remains unanswered is -- will Jim Zorn return as the coach for the Redskins next year? (Zorn is not mentioned in the list of employees and coaches Cerrato says he had the pleasure of working with).

While owner, Dan Snyder hasn't yet spoken on the above, he did have this to say about Vinny.

“More importantly, he is my friend, and he has always been there for me and the Redskins. He’s the consummate optimist and has always made decisions based on what would be the best for the team.”

Given that, did Cerrato must have thought his resignation 'would be the best for the team'.

Keep it here for more on this developing topic.

The Skins are at home for Monday Night Football against the New York Giants.

Man, why are they doing this now! With just 3 games left - couldn't they have waited until after the season?

The team is playing better, now they got to deal with this. But then again the Skins are fighters and I'm sure they'll get through this like they've gotten through everything else this season.
