WBF Championship Delivered Great Punches

Buchanan Wins WBF Super Middleweight Title

We told you this would be a good event.

Last evening's WBF Championship boxing event at the DC Convention Center was nothing short of exciting. Each bout showing a display of talent, workmanship, and skill.

In the Main Event, Henry Buchanan received the Championship honor, winning over Bobby Jordan, Jr. in an eight round contest. The match got off to a slow start, each fighter fielding their opponent. Each planning their strategy over the other for most of the first three rounds. The fight picked up in the fourth round. The boxers taunted and teased, and in the end it was Buchanan's combos to the ribs and face of Bobby Jordan, Jr. that would take its toll. Jordan sustained a nose bleed and cut above the left eye, courtesy of Henry 'Sugar Poo' Buchanan. Judges scored the match 80-72, for Buchanan.

In the Co-Main event Seth ‘Mayhem’ Mitchell continued on his war path to victory.

Mitchell (above) scored a TKO over Jermell Barnes.

Controversy ensued over who Mitchell's opponent would be - well before the fight took place. Originally scheduled to be Mitchell’s opponent was Bert Cooper. Days before the fight, Golden Boy Promotions (owned by Oscar De La Hoya), had a change of heart and decided they didn’t want Cooper fighting Mitchell (also a Golden Boy signee). Word has it that GBP wanted a much younger fighter to contend with Mitchell.

To the disapproval of the crowd, and Fright Night promoter Cassandra White of Babie Girl Production, the move was unacceptable.

“Golden Boy took advantage of a small local promoter, White told the audience from center ring. “A female (promoter) at that.”

No matter. Cooper’s replacement, Jermell Barnes filled in quite nicely.

Barnes and Mitchell went toe-to-toe, providing an impressive performance. However, it was a Mitchell take over that would lead to the demise of Barnes. Although Barnes withstood the pounding he received from Mitchell, the continuous body punches to Barnes began to wear on the boxer. Barnes appeared to stumble, leaving the crowd waiting to see if Barnes would fall to the canvas. Barnes stood his ground, even through the crowd repeatedly chanting, Mitchell! Mitchell! Mitchell!

This fight did not disappoint and Seth finished with a TKO in round 6 that improved his record to 14-0.

“I thought my son did an excellent job”, said the mother of Seth Mitchell. “He was exciting, and motivating.”

Other matches on the night saw Dwayne McRae winning unanimously over Stafford, Virginia’s Jonathan Felton. All three judges scored the heavyweight fight, 40-36, in favor of McRae. Felton, looking worn in the four-round matchup, admitted he wasn’t in the best of shape going into the bout. Felton’s record is now 6-19, while McRae improves to 5-1.

Alexander "The Great" Johnson (left) won a four-round unanimous decision over Arlington, Virginia’s Otgonbayer Daivii.

Jeremiah "The Bounty Hunter" Wiggins (Newport News, VA) won a majority decision over Antonio Walls of Washington, DC.

Making their pro debuts, Damion Richardson scored a first-round TKO over Damian Richardson.

The evening, at almost standing-room-only capacity, won over recording artist ‘Garvey The Chosen One’, who performed before the main event.

“The event was nice”, said Garvey. “All the bouts where good. There was no slacking.”

Garvey, fresh from recording his latest video, Hustle All The Time, when asked which bout he liked the best, admitted he was a bit biased as he was there to show his support for hometown favorite, Henry Buchanan.
