The Result Was the Same

With the nation watching the Redskins to see if they could finally pull off a win, and to see if the play calling of consultant Sherm Lewis would make a difference, one could concede in the final analysis that the Skins were unsuccessful.

“The result was the same”, said coach Zorn after the 17-27 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in a nationally televised game during Monday Night Football.

Despite the outcome, Zorn praised Lewis’ play calling today. (Something he didn’t do in last evening’s post game interview).

“The play-calling wasn’t an issue at all", said Zorn. “The plays came in real quick and things went very smoothly” was Zorn’s response in today’s press conference at Redskins Park.

Quarterback Jason Campbell agrees. “It’s not about the play calling. It’s about the execution.”

What else hurt the team in last night’s game?

“The pass pro[tection] and the inability to run consistently”, said Zorn.

The Skins had several turnovers that converted into points for the Eagles.

Eagles’ DeSean Jackson scored a TD on a 67-yard run, and a 57-yard reception.

The Skins allowed Eagles’ QB, Donovan McNabb to pass for 156 yards, earning him his200th career touchdown pass.

The Redskins have been under fire for not being able to score in the red zone. On a good note, Devin Thomas had a two-yard touchdown reception from Campbell in the second quarter. (The first of Thomas’ career).

The Skins get a bye week next week to reflect, heal, and rest - before returning to the rest of the regular season before facing the Atlanta Falcons on November 8th.

Said Jim Zorn, “We’re going to continue to press on.”

Game Injuries

It was a rough game for both teams, and injuries prevailed.

Campbell, sacked six times in the game, also sprained his right ankle.

Campbell had been dealing with a sprain in this left ankle throughout the season. With both ankles injured, Campbell admits he had difficulty running on Monday night.

"One thing that hindered me was not being able to run. When I got outside the pocket I was going to take a shot deep at Santana. Usually I would have taken the ball and run with it, but I can’t run, so the guy ended up stripping the ball from behind.”

Also hurting the Redskins is the news that Chris Cooley will be out for at least six weeks. Cooley fractured (or possibly broke) his ankle.

He was carted off the field to the locker room before the half.

Cooley is expected to have surgery this week. Cooley, donning a change of hair color, caught two passes for 21 yards against the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles running back, Brian Westbrook sustained a concussion in the first quarter of the game.

Westbrook was stretched out on the field for several minutes before regaining his wits. He was, however, able to walk off the field.

Westbrook is expected to go through medical tests to determine his status.

Cornelius Griffin (elbow sprain); H.B. Blades (knee injury); Byron Westbrook (knee injury); Phillip Daniels (tendonitis); Stephon Heyer (stretched knee ligament); Chris Samuels (neck); Albert Haynesworth (sprained ankle); Clinton Portis (sprained ankle).
