Mystics Put Block on Connecticut Sun!

Defeat the Sun 91-89 In Double OT!

You wouldn't start reading a book without finishing it to see what happened in the end; likewise you'd better not leave a Washington Mystics game early before seeing what the end will bring.

The Lady Mystics battled through a tough game that saw 16 lead changes, 14 ties, and two overtimes to end victoriously over the Connecticut Sun 91-89 Friday night at the Verizon Center.

With Monique Curry blocking shots in fourth quarter, Alana Beard scoring on the wings, and Crystal Langhorne garnering her first career high 22 point game (along with 19 rebounds) the Mystics led a relentless attack to the very end.

The Mystics took the lead early in the game, outscoring the Sun 14-8 in the first quarter, before the Sun regrouped and played the Mystics close throughout the remainder of game, matcing point-for-point.

The Sun, out to see if they could get a repeat performance after last Sunday's 96-67 win over the Mystics, shot 42% from the field (versus the Mystics' 44%), and lagged in free throw percentages with 69% compared to 89% from the Mystics.

Asjha Jones was the high scorer for Connecticut with 23 points, in front of Lindsay Whalen's 20 points and five assists.

Alana Beard, (called for a technical in the fourth quarter) scored 26 points for the Mystics, and blocked two shots. Marissa Coleman was scoreless in the contest, but managed an assist and a steal on the night. Lindsay Harding's hustle earned her 13 points and four assists to help the team to victory. Also instrumental were the 8 defensive rebounds of Nakia Sanford.

The win ended the Mystics' two game losing streak (Connecticut, and Detroit) and finds them now ranked third in the Eastern conference standings (12-11) behind Indiana (#1), and Atlanta (#2).

The Mystics face 7th (and last) placed New York Liberty Sunday at home. Game time 4pm.
