Terrell Owens isn't the only sports figure to get a key to a major US city.
Our own Washington Kastles will be honored in a special ceremony Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. on the steps of the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave, NW), where Mayor Adrian M. Fenty will present Kastles owner Mark Ein and the 2009 WTT Champion Washington Kastles with a key to the city.
Kastles fans are invited to attend the ceremony to congratulate head coach Murphy Jensen, 2009 Men’s MVP Leander Paes, 2009 WTT Finals MVP Scott Oudsema, WTT Finals hero Olga Puchkova and WTT top-ranked doubles ace Rennae Stubbs.
Fans should plan to arrive at The John A. Wilson Building (D.C. City Hall) by 10:30 a.m. as the Kastles will provide free Washington Kastles WTT Championship t-shirts produced especially for the event to the first 300 fans in attendance.
The ceremony will be immediately followed by a championship luncheon at the Occidental.
What you should know about the Kastles... The Washington Kastles brought home the King Trophy as the 2009 Advanta World TeamTennis Champions in only their second season. The Kastles, owned by entrepreneur Mark Ein, were led by ten-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams. The 34th season of World TeamTennis, co-founded in 1974 by tennis legend Billie Jean King, ran from July 2-26 and concluded with the Advanta WTT Finals held in Washington, D.C. Throughout the season, the Kastles worked with local charities and community organizations to share the mission of WTT and bring the game of tennis to the broader community.
