Welcome Home Alonzo Mourning!

ESPN's One-On-One With Georgetown Legend, Alonzo Mourning.

At Gaston Hall on the Campus of Georgetown University - from whence several collegiate and NBA basketball greats have spawned - friends, colleagues, coaches, and family came out for a special taping of ESPN's Homecoming series that featured former Georgetown standout, Alonzo Mourning.

In an exclusive ESPN setting, closed to most media outlets, Mourning (a native of Chesapeake, Virginia) shared his ups and downs as a college player under the tutelage of former coach John Thompson, talked about his life as an NBA player, being traded, and overcoming kidney disease.

The taping will be aired on ESPN August 6th at 7pm, and features Mourning's 'angels' who supported him through his maturation process from a kid to a ranking member of the NBA.

Former coaches (high school, college, and NBA), family members, former NBA teammates Patrick Ewing, Udonis Haslem (to name a few), wife Tracy (an HU alum), and physician Jerry Appel who treated Mourning, each gave their account and remembrances of Mourning during the highs and lows of his career.

Mourning's former Miami coach, Pat Riley (via live telecast) also shared his thoughts on Mourning and introduced the audience to the official Miami Heat Forever Card as a tribute to the 2006 NBA Champs, of which Mourning was an official team member in a 95-92 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I have a ring, and you don't", said Mourning to former teammate and potential kidney donor, Patrick Ewing.

Although Ewing's heart was in the right place, it was Mourning's cousin, Jason Cooper (who Mourning hadn't seen in over 25 years) who became the official candidate when it was found that Ewing, due to high blood pressure issues, would not be the one to donate the lifesaving kidney that Mourning needed.

The series also touched on the relationship between Mourning and former DC drug kingpin Rayful Edmond.

"If it weren't for people around me like coach Thompson, I don't know where I'd be", said Mourning.

Mourning, who says he has learned so much from his life experiences, continues to give back to the community. He hosts his yearly summer weekend celebrity bash, Zo's Summer Groove, and helps provide educational opportunities for troubled youth.

"My goal is to continue to help people by starting a movement around the country that I hope more people will catch on to", said Mourning.

Hosted by former Sports Illustrated writer, Rick Reilly, the Homecoming series also plans to air segments featuring Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, former NFL wide receiver, Jerry Rice and the NFL's Kurt Warner.

He was an awesome player...I just don't like the fact that he is notorious for speaking publically about his wife and perfect marriage, when behind the scenes he carries on multiple affairs....it only hasn't come to light because he's avoided fathering children....but I know for a fact he carried on an affair for years with a woman in Michigan who also happened to be married!

Great player but questionable character!
