Lucy, what happened?
That’s what you have to ask after seeing the Wizards come so close in last night’s game.
The team that could, almost did, but then started slipping away as the Indiana Pacers defeated the Wizards, 118-98, at the Verizon Center.
Down 48-58 with less than :35 in the 2nd quarter, the Wizards were still alive and within 10 points, after trailing fourteen early in the contest.
A three pointer by DeShawn Stevenson, off a pass from Caron Butler, put the Wizards within five.
The squad even outscored the Pacers in the third quarter by ten points (35-25) but the Wizards just couldn't get it done.
What happened?
Just when the game was tied late in the 3rd quarter,85-85, and a smidget of hope emerged, the Wizards made fouls that sent the Pacers to the foul line.
Georgetown Prep School graduate, and Georgetown University favorite, Roy Hibbert started off in foul trouble with three in the first half and saw limited playing time, until the fourth quarter where a few redeeming points, mainly free throws off Wizards’ fouls, helped contribute to the win against the Wizards.
The Wizards struggled down the stretch offensively with rebounding, and in-the-paint scoring.
“We know what we’re supposed to do out there, said Antawn Jamison. We’re just not getting it done.”
Let's hope they can figure it out before facing the Pistons tomorrow night in Detroit.
Game Notes
Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, in concert, are the highest scoring forward team in the NBA, with 41.9 points per game.
Wizards center, Etan Thomas had a scheduled heart check up at the Mayo Clinic and was absent from the game.
The Pacers are ranked last in the NBA central division.
