Good Ground - Good Life Hosts Inaugural 'Hollywood Hoopfest' Celebrity Basketball Game.
October 18, 2008 -Several of Hollywood's brightest came out to support the efforts of Good Ground - Good Life, a 501(c)(3) organization geared toward providing safe and effective living and learning environments to nurture and inspire underserved, and at-risk youth.
Youth from Friendly High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland got a special treat when their favorite celebs like Lamman Rucker, Morris Chestnut, Andre Pitre, Dr. Pierre Johnson (Surgeon, Washington Hospital Center), Luis Trikz DeSilva, actress Jackie Long, and Keith Robinson challenged them to a game of basketball inside Coolidge High School's gymnasium.
Founder, Tarek Stevens believes it's all about giving back to society. "I recently donated a kidney to my ailing mother, so I know how important it is to give to those in need."
Actor Lamman Rucker says, "This is what it's all about, without sounding cliche, it's about keeping our kids off the street, and giving them some other alternative and a safe place where they can learn, collaborate, and get them in the community."
Rucker, who lost his brother to violence in 1992, added that the GGGL Foundation is an "anti-violence, and anti-truancy initiative."
"We all know if we hadn't had some positive alternatives [when we were kids] we wouldn't be who we are, and doing what we're doing today."
"It's all about the kids, reaching families, and communities."
Proceeds go towards educational and community initiatives.
Game note: The Capital City All Stars defeated the Tri State Players, 88-80.
