Redskins Make Front Office Moves

There's a new regime beginning out at Redskins park.

The organization continues to shake things up since the hiring of new head coach Ron Rivera. There have been a new hires, fires, and promotions.

The organization named famed 1980's Redskin Super Bowl XX quarterback Doug Williams to VP of Player Development. In laymen's terms, Williams will be tasked with making sure players get on, and stay on, the narrow and straight path. (Such a position can be a lofty one.)

In a statement earlier this week Williams said, "After meeting with Dan Snyder, Coach Rivera and Senior Director of Player Development Malcolm Blacken, we all came to an agreement on the vision that we have for the franchise going forward. I am looking forward to this new opportunity to work with Malcolm and I have always respected his work during my time with the franchise. We both look forward to working with and supporting Coach Rivera in making sure that our players are prepared for life on and off the field.”

The Redskins have parted ways with football operations and salary cap expert Eric Schaffer after 17 seasons.

“... It was a privilege serving this historic franchise as both Senior Vice President of Football Operations and General Counsel and a blessing to have worked with so many incredible people,” said Schaffer. “While I will miss the players, my friends, colleagues, and the tremendous Washington Redskins' fans, my family and I are excited for our next chapter.”

The team also parted ways with general manager Bruce Allen on December 30th. He served in his capacity for ten years.

Former Raiders and Jaquers coach Jack Del Rio was added to the organization as the new defensive coordinator.
