Save The Date/s: Local Boxers To Take National Stage In May/June

The month of May is the jump off month for DMV boxers getting major exposure. 

Starting this weekend, Dusty Hernandez-Harrison will be featured along with 18 professional boxers competing on the All-In Entertainment Champion Class fight card this Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the University of the District of Columbia Sports Complex).


Here's the lineup:

Fans are invited to the official weigh-in on May 17th at UDC's auditorium.
 


Also on May 18th see boxing favorite Lamont Peterson as he battles Lucas Matthysse in a 12-round 141 pound welterweight fight at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  The co-main event will feature Devon Alexander vs. Lee Purdy in 12-round IBF Welterweight World Championship fight for Alexander's title. 

About Peterson (31-1-1, 16 KOs): Peterson is currently the IBF Junior Welterweight World Champion.  In his last fight Peterson won with an 8th round technical knockout win over former world champion Kendall Holt.  This will be his second fight in three months.  With only a three-month layoff, Peterson's looking to capitalize on a quick turnaround when he faces one of the hardest punchers in the sport.  He has a record of 31-1-1 with 16 KO's, from Washington D.C., Lamont Peterson. 

Peterson on Lucas:

"He's a top guy.  We're fighting each other for a reason, because we're two of the top guys that want a challenge and that's what we're going to do Saturday night."

Both fighters look to this fight to elevate their boxing careers.


ALSO: Watch for Lamont's younger brother, Anthony Peterson (31-1, 20 KO's), as he goes toe-to-toe with boxing's Dominic Salcido (18-4, 9 KO's) of Rialto, CA.

About Lucas (33-2, 31 KOs): In his last three fights, 30 year-old Lucas has defeated former three division world champion, Roberto Soto, then number one rated WBC Super Lightweight contender, Olusegun Ajose and top contender Mike Dallas Jr

Originally from Trelew, Argentina Lucas dubbed "The Machine" fought his way back from two controversial split decision losses to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander.

On June 22nd, Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (Brandywine, Maryland - pro record: 25-1-1, 19 KOs) returns to the ring for a rematch vs. Johnathon Banks (Detroit, Michigan - pro record: 29-1-1, 19 KOs), live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.


Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KOs) will look to avenge a second round TKO sustained during the pair's November 17th, 2012 meeting in Atlantic City.

Said Mitchell about the upcoming rematch, “I’m looking forward to get out there and show better this time and come away with a victory.”

The fight will also be televised on Showtime Boxing.
