Lamont Peterson: What's Next?

(DC UrbanSports) - On Monday, January 28th, IBF Junior Welterweight World Champion Lamont Peterson will make a special announcement regarding his boxing career. 

Peterson is expected to return to the ring for the first time in 14 months, on February 22,  to make his mandatory defense against former title holder Kendall Holt.

Peterson, who turned 29 yesterday, on January 24th, last fought in DC in a controversial bout against Britain's Amir Khan.  Peterson won via split decision even though the fight was contested by Khan.  Weeks later Peterson was found to have been tested positively for a but tested positive for synthetic testosterone, a banned substance.  Peterson refuted the claim.

A rematch between the two men was scheduled for May 19th of last year, but negotiations fell apart.

Enter Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KOs), 31, of Paterson, N.J.  Holt held the junior welterweight title from 2008 to '09 by defeating Ricardo Torres in a first-round knockout rematch between the two fighters.

Pending Peterson's announcement this Monday, the two are scheduled to meet in the main event of an ESPN2 "Friday Night Fights" contest scheduled to take place at the DC Armory.
