Stars Aligning for Washington Sports Teams?

Have the stars above aligned for Washington DC sports teams?

Seemingly so, with two Washington sports teams beating defending championship teams in less than a week.

The Washington Wizards defeated the 12-3 NBA Champions Miami Heat 105-101.

Jordan Crawford led the team with 22 points & 6 assists, Kevin Seraphin had another double-double with 16 points & 10 boards, while the team had a season-high 31 assists on 38 made field goals.

A.J. Price added 14 points, Martell Webster put in 13, with Bradley Beal scoring ten points on the night.

Sportmans of the Year, LeBron James, had a triple-double for Miami with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists while Chris Bosh had 20 points and 12 boards.  DeWayne Wade added 24 points.

The win was their third straight in a dismal, but seemingly improved 3-12 week.    Redskins QB Robert Griffin, III court side.

The Wizards are slated to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.

Speaking of the Redskins...

The Washington Redskins beat Eli Manning and the New York Giants in a close contest at FedEx Field, 17-16 in prime time, on Monday Night Football to even their record this season, 6-6.

It was the first time since 2008 that the Redskins have won three or more in a row.

Running back Alfred Morris rushed for a career-high 124 yards on 22 carries, his fifth 100-yard rushing effort this season. Morris’ five 100-yard rushing games are the most by a Redskins rookie in a single season since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger and are the most by a Redskin of any experience level since Clinton Portis had six 100-yard rushing games in 2008.

Robert Griffin, III, who earned Hall of Fame honor (players wait years for this) this week, completed 13 of 21 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown.

The team had solid performances from many of its players, including a kicker Kai Forbath's 33-yard field goal in the second quarter with just :46 seconds remaining in the game. Forbath is a perfect 11 of 11on the season, extending his team record for consecutive field goals made by a Redskins kicker to open a career.

Along with the win however, the Redskins were hammered with news that Cedric Griffin has been suspended without pay for the team’s next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. He will be eligible to return to the Redskins’ active roster on Monday, December 31 following the team’s December 30 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

“It is tough to lose a football player, a guy who has been doing a good job for us", said coach Shanahan. "Always look at it like a guy that sprains his ankle, he is going to be out for the remainder of the regular season and guys are going to have to step up and fill the void.”

The team promoted tackle Tom Compton to their active roster from the team’s practice squad and also signed defensive back Korey Lindsey and linebacker Kourtnei Brown to the team’s practice squad.

The team prepares to face off with their hometown 'rivals', The Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.   Fans attending the Washington Redskins’ game against the Baltimore Ravens are invited to the ultimate NFL shopping experience in the Redskins Style Lounge at the Verizon Gate of FedExField on Sunday, Dec. 9, starting at 11 a.m. featuring a pop-up boutique to showcase fashion-forward women’s NFL apparel with Tanya Snyder and Holly Robinson Peete at FedExField Sunday
