Former Maryland Coach, Gary Williams, Lands In 'Another' Hall of Fame

After 33 years as the head coach at the University of Maryland, Gary Williams is getting some long overdue recognition.

Williams who amassed an overall record of 668-380 (461-252 while at MD) will receive a lifetime achievement award from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame.


"This is a great honor to be inducted into the Washington, DC Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame", said Williams. "I played at Maryland and then to spend the last 22 years of my coaching career at Maryland was an unbelieveable blessing."

Williams thanked the university's players, coaches, alumni and the community for supporting him.

Williams is also a member of the UMD Alumni Hall of Fame, UMD Sports Hall of Fame, Greater Washington Sports Hall of Champions, and the Baltimore Sports Legends Musem Hall of Legends.

Williams retired from coaching May 5th of 2011. He will be honored on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at the Capital Hilton.
