Mystics Add Dunlap

Dunlap joins Wizards' John Wall, as another elite Univeristy of Kentucky player to join Washington sports franchises.

The Washington Mystics selected Victoria Dunlap from the University of Kentucky in the first round (11th overall) of the WNBA draft. The team also selected Karima Christmas with the second round (23rd overall) and Sara Krnjic with the third round (35th overall).

“Victoria is a competitive, agile post player with multiple skill sets and she is going to be a great addition to our team,” said Washington Mystics Head Coach and General Manager Trudi Lacey. “She can score, defend and rebound and she is going to be a great addition to our team and we are just ecstatic that she is here.”

A 6-1 forward, Dunlap completed her collegiate career as one of the most decorated players in Wildcat history. She averaged 13.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game over her career and received numerous SEC honors including Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Associated Press Honors this past season. Dunlap helped lead Kentucky to back- to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first since the 1982-83 seasons and back-to-back SEC Tournament finals for the first time in school history. She is the first player in school history with more than 100 assists, 100 blocks and 300 steals.

Christmas, from Duke University, is a 6-0 forward who was named to the 2011 All-ACC tournament first team. In her four years at Duke, Christmas averaged 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. The team selected Sara Krnjic from Serbia in the third round (35th overall). She is currently playing in the Euroleague for Pecs in Hungary. The 6-4 center is currently recording 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

“Karima is a versatile player that gives us some depth at the three spot with Monique possibly out for the season,” added Lacey. “Krnjic can play down low and she can also face up with the 15-footer. She is an added addition as we continue to add depth in the post.”
