Wizards Defeat Celtics

This Is A Big &*^ Deal!

Score a big morale booster for the Washington Wizards as they defeated the Boston Celtics, 85-83 at Verizon Center last evening.

Yes, the team who can't seem to score one single win on the road, and stand 0-20 trying, did manage to beat the former World Champions.

Goes to show you that the NBA moniker "Where Amazing Happens" is true to form.

The young Wizards team, who let Boston continue to drive up the middle (unguarded) for scoring opportunities, managed to pull off the win when the lackluster Celtics couldn't hit the side of a barn door, especially in the fourth quarter.

Boston scored just 11 fourth quarter points. The Celtics led in the first quarter, outscoring the Wizards 35-20. But it was the Washington Wizards who actually outscored Boston the remaining quarters: 26-21 (Q2), 24-16 (Q3), 15-11 (Q4).

I've never known Boston to perform in such mediocre fashion.

Kevin Garnett scored a team-high 17 points with four rebounds. Semih Erden grabbed 11 rebounds (a career high).

Rashard Lewis was the high scorer with 18 points for the Wizards. JaVale McGee and John Wall joined in for 16 points a piece, followed by 11 points from Andray Blatche.

The Wizards face the Knicks in New York (Monday) and the Nuggets in Denver (Tuesday), before ending the week with three additional games, on the road. (Let's hope they don't bring back an 0-24 road game record with them).

On another note: The arena was sold out with some 20,000 fans (many wearing green).

Said owner Ted Leonsis who posted on his blog earlier in the season that he would Dougie should fans sell out Verzion Center: "But I don’t have to do the “Dougie” as I stated clearly the games against the Lakers, Heat and Celtics wouldn’t be considered in my offer to dance.

Wizards News: Last week the Wizards signed guard Mustafa Shakur from the NBA Development League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 10-day contract. Shakur averages 16 points. Shakur has 'been around' having spent time in training camp with the New Orleans Hornets and with teams in Oklahoma City, Sacramento and the D-League’s Tulsa Thunder before finding a temporary home with the Wizards.

Game Notes: Prior to the game the Wizards held a 'Bundle Up With Blatche' coat drive that collected coats for homeless shelters in the DC area.
