Doyle Records Fifth Double-Double of the Season; HU Edged 60-57 by NJIT

Howard's Saadia Doyle recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-57 loss to the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Wed. Dec. 22. Cheyenne Curley-Payne was the only other HU player in double figures with 12 points on the afternoon.

Doyle paced Howard (3-9) with 16 points at the half as the Lady Bison took a 26-24 advantage heading into the lockerroom.

In the second period, the Highlanders took a 31-26 margin off a Rayven Johnson jumper at the 17:24 mark to give NJIT its first lead of the game. The Highlanders scored seven more straight unanswered to give the Lady Bison a nine point deficit, 35-26, with 15:20 left to play.

NJIT pushed the spread to as many as 13 points, 51-38, with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. HU used a 9-3 run over a two-plus span to cut it to 57-55 at the 1:20 mark. NJIT held off the Lady Bison with free-throws in the last minute of play.

NJIT was paced by Jessica Gerald’s 20 points off of 12-for-14 shooting from the charity stripe. Kimberly Dweck finished with 13 points in 39 minutes of action. Maria Sanchez chipped in with nine points and pulled down a team-high 13 off the glass.

The Lady Bison are now 1-3 against teams below .500 and 0-5 against teams that score 60 or more points.

For the game, HU was held to just under 30 percent shooting (20-for-67) while NJIT finished with a 32.6 percent (15-for-46) from the floor.

Howard forced 28 turnovers, while only committing 17 and scored 19 points off the Highlander miscues. HU was edged 41-38 on the boards, however. The Lady Bison are 1-9when being outrebounded by opponents.

The Lady Bison are back in action on Dec. 30 when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.
