The Name Change Game

Wizards Name Change "Under Consideration"

For some reason fans would like the Wizards to change the team's name. Some want the name to be changed back to The Washington Bullets. (Obviously for nostalgia sake).

Wizards ownership and management says the idea of a name change "is under consideration."

Personally, I like the Washington Wizards name. I like the Wizards logo. I think it's one of the more creative logos within the League. Look at it. A wizard with its arm outstretched in the blue Wizards' uniform color; in animation, spinning the ball on the tip of its 'finger'. Curly Neal being giving a run for his money.

What other logo in the League is more creative? (I've always wanted to meet the creator of that logo.)

There is no reason to change the name, logo, or team colors. Here's why.

It WILL NOT make the team win games.
It WILL NOT guarantee a championship.
It WILL NOT make your players perform better.

Those accomplishments are achieved by team members playing the game of basketball in team concert, making better plays and outscoring the opponent, as the Wizards did in the first two games of this season.

Excluding last night's 96-107 loss to Chicago the team was 2-0 on the season. Matching the Redskins. (When was the last time we ever had two Washington sports teams together, at 2-0?)

Back to the name change game.

Why would you DISHONOR the Pollin legacy by changing the team's name back to The Washington Bullets when Pollin abhorred the team being stigmatized by the gun violence in the city, as well having his friend die by gunfire?

How Rosa's Law is that?

Do you know how many NBA players are affected by guns in one way or another? in Didn't the team just deal with having a player convicted of guns in the locker room?

If you want to honor the Abe Pollin legacy, honor the previous owner with what he REALLY wanted for the team - an NBA CHAMPIONSHIP title.

As I said previously, I like the Wizards name. But, if you must change the name, I'll go with The Washington Avengers.

Lord knows it's payback. On so many levels.
