Calling his visit to the White House "something very special and very personal" MLB manager and former player, Joe Torre said "I can't tell you how privileged I am to have been able to speak at the White House on the subject of domestic violence.

"I'm proud to be a part of this initiative. It's an issue we need to get out into the open."

Joe witnessed domestic violence first-hand growing up as a child, watching his own father abuse his mother. In 2003 in a Date Line NBC interview Torre and his brother Frank, recount an incident where his father threw his mother down the stairs when he found out she was pregnant with Torre.
