You might not have known that CBS sports caster James Brown is a native Washingtonian. You also might not have known that he is what he calls "a die hard Redskin fan."

We asked him today after an engagement where he spoke, what he thought about the Redskins this season.

"I'm going to take my sports caster's hat off and say that I am a die-hard Redskins fan. I'm hopeful."

Brown said of the Skins, "they're not a strong team", but they got a few wins under their belt and that's all that matters."

Get The Ball Rolling

The team with a few wins under their belt hosted a flag football clinic today out a FedEx Field, part of the Live Positively: Get the Ball Rolling initiative.

Approximately 200 youth from across the region including students from Kelly Miller Middle School (DC), John Hayden Johnson Middle School (DC), Kenmoor Middle School (MD), and Seneca Ridge Middle School (VA) took part in the Redskins clinic, which focused on physical activity, football technique, and healthy living.

Players LB Lorenzo Alexander, WR Anthony Armstrong, WR Brandon Banks, CB Kevin Barnes, and RB Ryan Torain helped host the clinic that the students were all too excited to participate in.

"This is an exciting day", said Marcellus Clemons, P.E. teacher at Kenmoor Middle School.

"We're right here locally in Landover (Maryland), so it's great that the kids got the opportunity to come right down the street and play in a flag football game with the Washington Redskins."

The event was timely for Clemons and his students (who were just excited to see a Redskin in burgundy and gold), as they were also playing flag football in the student's physical education classes.

"When we got the information from our principal that they (Washington Redskins) invited us out here it was just a great way to take our class activities and bring it out to a national scene that the Redskins are providing."

The kids got advice on eating healthy from the team's nutritionist, Jane Jakubczak, who shared that eating a good breakfast is the foundation of the student's nutritional day. (Did you know that several Redskins players enjoy smoothies blended with peanut butter?).

Jakubczak likened the kids' classes in school to the players having to sit in team meetings.

- This is where the story line gets interesting. -

"How many of you here have trouble falling asleep in class in the morning?", asked Jakubczak. "I want to tell you an interesting story. Did you know that the players have to sit in a lot meetings as well?, asked Jakubczak.

"One time there was a rookie, a couple of years ago, that was falling asleep in meetings, and the coach wasn't very happy about that", explained Jakubczak.

That analogy couldn't have come at a better (or worse) time. Good for the kids to learn to eat a good breakfast to get the day going. Bad if you remember the incident with a recently released player who was seen sleeping in a team meeting.

Moral of the story? We'll just say eat breakfast.

That aside, the kids and players had a good time.

"It's good to be out here playing with the kids, keeping them interactive, getting them running around a little bit and playing some football", said Torain who seemed to be having just as much fun as the kids he helped coach.

Torain's team won 14-7.

"It was fun playing with the Redskins", said Simone Thomas who scored a touchdown in the winning contest.

Derek Easton, small in stature, but big on courage, also scored a touchdown and had an interception.
