Jim Zorn: You'll Go Down In His-tor-y!

...As the coach of one of the most talked about NFL teams of our time.

Season's Beatings. (Courtesy of the New York Giants).

When it's all said and done, and all done and said, the coach of the Washington Redskins, Jim Zorn, will perhaps be remembered most for his ineffective play calling (surreptitiously taken away) and his post game commentary about a fake field goal after a 45-12 beat down (okay, massacre) by the New York Giants - the worse loss of the team's season.

Either way, they're both bad. Really, really bad.

If it were Valentine's Day (instead of Christmas time) some of the words to My Funny Valentine would be changed to ‘your style and coaching are laughable', … you’re a football analyst’s favorite work of art… during your press conferences… when you open your mouth to speak, are you smart?
"I contemplated just kicking the field goal after (the timeout). The play was unique enough that I didn't think they saw what we were really trying to do. But they smelled it out pretty quickly. We didn't really have a chance."
In a game where Redskin field goals were still missed (despite a change in kicker/punter personnel), the New York Giant offense (and defense) was a step ahead of every Redskin play as if they somehow had gotten a copy of the game's official play book.

The Giants covered the entire field, leaving virtually no one open for Campbell to throw the ball to (although the Giants' Manning found plenty mates to throw to). There was virtually nothing this Redskins team could have done to ward off the New York Giants who played like a team that was playoff bound.

Honestly, I don’t know which was worse, watching the game, or reading the headlines afterwards.

Here’s what the New York Times is reporting…
Let’s say you are the Redskins’ Dead Coach Walking Jim Zorn. You are about to be thrown onto Dan Snyder’s compost heap of discarded coaches. You have already been humiliated by having your play-calling duties stripped and given to a man who was most recently calling Bingo games. Your team is being destroyed by a Giants defense everyone had written off for dead. And you’re thinking, how can I really make a mark on this season?

Answer: Run the worst play of the year.
There’s more.

Again, I don’t know which is worse: hearing Albert Haynesworth say the team “needs someone to lead us in the right direction”, or seeing the quarterback after the game with a black eye.

All this additional mayhem, just days after the previous VP of Ops, Vinny Cerrato, gets fired by the owner (amid protests from fans who thought Cerrato was part of the problem). Well, Cerrato is gone, and the team has the worst game of the season, leaving the remaining part of Dysfunction Junction still in tact.

The Giants simply wanted the game more. More than a team currently with a 4-10 record. More than a team whose organization is tore-up-from-the-floor-up. More than a team with a coach who is wondering himself if he is the next to go. (Even though he claims not to think about it.)

Now, what?

"We focus on Dallas this Sunday".
