Out At Redskins Park: No Retiring This Number

LeBron James may have been on a personal crusade to permanently retire Michael Jordan's No. 23 jersey, but there is no retiring running back Marcus Mason (No. 32), as the Redskins have re-signed him.

Mason was on the Redskins’ roster for the first six games of this season (as No. 24) - playing in three games - with six carries for 19 yards. He was released on Oct. 20.

Mason, who led the NFL in rushing during the 2008 preseason, returns to the lineup to help rebuild the fledging, injury laden offensive line that has left numerous players out of commission; the latest, running back LaDell Betts , who is out for the season with knee ligament tears in both his ACL and MCL sustained during the first quarter of last Sunday's turbulent 6-7 loss against the rival Dallas Cowboys.

Betts was instrumental in the Skins 27-17 home win over the Denver Broncos two weeks ago, rushing for 114 yards in the game.

The Skins have also signed guard Paul Fanaika from Philadelphia’s practice squad.

Fanaika (pronounced fun-EYE-kuh) was a seventh-round draft choice of the Eagles in 2009 out of Arizona State. He started 35-of-48 career games with the Sun Devils, earning All-Pac 10 honorable mention in 2006 and 2008. The 6-foot-5, 327-pound Fanaika was born April 9, 1986, and attended Mills High School in Milbrae, Calif. He will wear No. 69.

Other player injuries include Chad Rinehart, Albert Haynesworth (ankle), DeAngelo Hall (sprained knee), Mike Williams (ankle), Chris Horton (toe), and running back Clinton Portis, who remains sidelined with concussion-like symptoms.

Injury Updates
Rinehart had surgery on Monday that included inserting a plate to support his injured fibula. He is expected to be on Injured Reserved, as is center Edwin Williams.
