Opening of the 'W' Hotel Blends Music and Sports

The W Stands for Wow! Winner! (And Wigs!)

The grand opening of the 'W' (Washington) Hotel last night was a fascinating affair that bought out the likes of Washington Kastles' Mark Ein, Wizards' Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood, Robert Horry, Fresh Prince actress Tatiana Ali, Cosby Show Lisa Bonet, Alex Ovechkin (perhaps getting his mind off the Caps' loss to the Rangers), America's Next Top Model famer Paul Wharton, Reggie Love (aide to President "Nobel Peace Prize Winning' Barack Obama), and a host of others.

A rooftop performance by John Legend kept the guests at the newly remodeled hotel jamming late into the night with performances like 'Used To Love U', Get Lifted, and a Michael Jackson tribute with 'Remember The Time'.

The Hotel, positioned near the White House at 515 15th Street, has an interesting wow factor, boasting its Victorian style furniture and lighting. Last night's event featured models wearing Victorian style wigs and costumes that added a nice touch as they danced atop boxed platforms on the first floor entry.

Originally opened in 1917, the hotel underwent an extensive million dollar makeover in 2007.

The 'W' is part of Starwood family of hotel and resorts and is expected to be one of the city's hot spots for powerbrokers and celebs. If last night's purple carpet affair was any indication of what's to come, then the 'W' is well on its way.
