Howard Swim Team Member Wins Swimmer of the Week Honor!

Howard University Senior, Miguel Orellana (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association’s (CCSA) Men’s Swimmer of the Week.

Orellana posted three top-two finishes in Howard’s meet against Delaware last Saturday. The captain took control in his first event winning the 200 free with a time of 1:44.94. Orellana missed another first-place finish by .13 of a second finishing second in the 100 free with a 47.78. He continued his great meet posting a time of 54.57 in the 100 butterfly for another second-place finish.

HU recently named Matt Salerno as Head Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving coach.

Salerno comes to HU after serving as the Assistant Swimming coach at Davidson College. He helped guide the Wildcats to a pair of second place finishes in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships (CCSA) last year while helping Davidson swimmers achieve 29 new college records during the 2008-2009 season.

Howard is back in action on Friday with a matchup against Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.
