Washington Kastles Ready For This Year's Tennis Season!

Here's an update from the Washington Kastles as the '09 season gets into swing!

Serena Williams is gearing up for the Kastles season by rocking the French Open, where she defeated Aleksandra Wozniak in a dominating fourth round performance by the score of 6-1, 6-2. Her next match, which will be her sixth career quarterfinal at Roland Garros, will be against Svetlana Kuznetsova, currently ranked seventh in singles. Coming off her US Open and Australian Open titles, this was Serena's 18th consecutive Grand Slam victory.

Serena and Venus, seeded fifth in womens' doubles, lost in their third round doubles match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Nadia Petrova.

The Kastles' Leander Paes and partner Lukas Dlouhy, seeded third in mens' doubles, have reached the semifinals and will face off against the top-seeded team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.

KASTLES STADIUM CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES
Kastles Stadium construction by Mid-Atlantic Tennis Courts

Construction of Kastles Stadium is moving ahead at a rapid pace! Be sure to stop by 11th and H Street in downtown D.C. to see the progress first-hand.

The foundation for the stadium has been poured and laser leveled to smooth out the surface. Next steps: pouring the asphalt and painting the court in WTT's signature colorful style. During that process, crews will begin building the bleachers around the stadium, which will hold nearly 3,000 Kastles fans when finished. That's 30% more seats for action-packed Kastles tennis this summer!
