Hometown Boxing Talent Honored

DC's own, Lamont Peterson (left, with title belt), gets well deserved recognition from his home town this week, courtesy of the DC City Council.

As we told you here, Peterson, the reigning WBO Interim Junior Welterweight champion, defeated Willy Blain in a scheduled 12 round fight at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on April 25th of this year.

On Tuesday, the Council presented a resolution honoring the boxer.

Said council member Kwame Brown, "Lamont Peterson has demonstrated that perseverance in the face of great adversity leads to ultimate success. This resolution is a tribute to his achievements, which will inspire young athletes in the District to fight for their dreams."

Peterson (27-0) is rated 10th on the World active light-welterweight ratings - just a few pegs behind Manny Pacquiao (#1) and Ricky Hatton (#2), and 5th on the US active light-welterweight ratings.
