The Greater Washington Sports Alliance, along with the Washington Redskins and Destination DC are proud to announce that the 112th Army-Navy Game will be played on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at FedExField in Landover, Maryland.

“This is a phenomenal achievement by the three organizations to secure such an historic event for our nation’s capital, says Robert Sweeney, President of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. “With nearly a half million active and retired military personnel currently living in our region and the historic memorials that honor our nation’s service men and women, it just makes sense to have a game of this magnitude played in Washington, D.C.”

A tradition that started back in 1890, this will be the first time in series history that the game will be played in the nation’s capital. The Washington D.C. region is home to 43 major bases and installations employing more than 97,000 active Army and Navy personnel, which ensures that one of college sports most talked about competitions will be played in front of one of the largest military fan bases in the games storied history.

“We are honored that FedExField was awarded the Army-Navy game, one of the most prestigious matchups in all of college football,” said Washington Redskins Chief Operating Officer Mitch Gershman. “Our leaders in Prince George’s County – County Executive Jack B. Johnson and County Council Member Andrea Harrison – provided us with tremendous local support, for which we are extremely appreciative. We are proud to showcase the 112th edition of this significant rivalry, which will mark the culmination of an eventful and memorable week for our entire community.”

As part of this historic weekend, Washington D.C. will also play host to several premier events in association with the Army-Navy Football game including the Army-Navy Gala, which will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011.

"We are proud to help land this legendary game for the nation's capital," said William Hanbury, President & CEO for Destination DC, the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC. "Our hospitality industry is anxious to welcome the passionate national fan base of these great academies during a particularly inspiring season in DC."

Ticket information about the 2011 Army-Navy game will be released at a later date. The 2011 game was part of an eight year package announced by the US Naval Academy and US Military Academy today. FedEx Field will be the 15th different venue to play host to this historic event and Landover, Maryland the third city in the state of Maryland to stage the game joining Baltimore and Annapolis. Navy currently holds the advantage in the epic series 53-49-7.
