Four Local NFL Players Nominated For 2009 JB Awards

Washington Redskins Clinton Portis, and Rock Cartwright, are nominated for the 2009 JB Awards.

Joining them are Baltimore Ravens' Joe Flaco and Daniel Wilcox.

The JB Awards is an annual awards presentation hosted by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) to benefit Special Olympics DC.

The honored players from around the National Football League will join local Special Olympics athletes for a football clinic, an annual event held the morning of the Gala. The gala recognizes NFL players for their individual contributions to their communities, and awards one player the coveted Bryon Whizzer White award.

The extraordinary football clinic will feature more than 75 local Special Olympics athletes participating alongside NFL player-honorees in five friendly, non-contact football stations. The players will interact with the athletes and help demonstrate a variety of offensive and defensive skills, including passing, receiving, and kicking.

Other NFL honorees include Gary Brackett, Indianapolis; Drew Brees, New Orleans; Isaac Bruce, San Francisco; Greg Camarillo, Miami; Brian Dawkins, Philadelphia;
Chris Draft, St. Louis; Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona; Mike Furrey, Detroit; Tony Pashos, Jacksonville; David Thornton, Tennessee; Kurt Warner, Arizona; Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh.

The NFLPA selected DeMaurice Smith as its new Executive Director. Smith replaces the late Gene Upshaw who passed suddenly last year of pancreatic cancer.
