HOWARD ANNOUNCES 2009 VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

Head volleyball coach Orlando Larracuente announced the team's 2009 schedule on Wednesday. The Lady Bison will compete in five tournaments and battle teams from the ACC, Atlantic 10 and Big South conferences.

Nine of Howard’s regular season matches will be played at Burr Gymnasium. Included in the home slate are non-league match-ups with Big-East member Georgetown (Sept. 21) and Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 9.

The Lady Bison open the season at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Aug. 28-29. HU faces off against Radford and the host Dukes on Aug. 28 before taking on MAC member Bowling Green on day two of the tournament.

Howard travels to Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty Tournament on Sept. 4-5 before hosting the Loyola Greyhounds in its home opener on Sept. 9.

The Lady Bison hit the road for the Western Carolina Tournament on Sept. 11-12 before making the cross-town trek to American University on Sept. 15. HU competes in the Maryland Tournament (Sept. 18-19) before concluding tournament action at the Bryant Invitational on Sept. 25-26 where Howard will battle Maine, Brown and the host Bulldogs.

HU begins Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play against beltway rival Coppin State on Oct. 9. The Lady Bison host Delaware State in their home league opener on Oct. 16.

Howard hits the road for conference games against Morgan State (Oct. 11), Hampton (Oct. 18), DSU (Nov. 1) and Maryland Eastern Shore (Nov. 8).

Non-MEAC road contests pits HU against North Carolina Central on Sept. 10, Lafayette on Oct. 6 and George Washington on Oct. 20. The Lady Bison will host the Lady Pirates in its final regular season home decision on Nov. 6.

Howard finished 7-3 in conference play in 2009, its best MEAC finish in seven years.
