Hey! Give Me Some Of That Flu!

If having the flu makes you a better basketball player, then …

Two NBA players, suffering with the flu this weekend, helped their teams win big.

Lakers’ Kobe Bryant played with the flu Lebron James and company, winning 101-91, snapping the Cavaliers’ twenty-three game at-home win streak.

Closer to home Caron Butler, who had been away from the Wizards for two games, also with the flu, came back with a vengeance Sunday night and helped the Wizards win a 119-117 game over the Indiana Pacers.

Butler had 35 points and seemingly collapsed on the floor after shooting the winning shot in the final seconds of the game.

“I was just hoping somebody would come and pick me up off the floor”, said Butler. “I was tired.”

Butler also scored a three-pointer with just two minutes left in the game, tying the game, 114-114 before Indiana Pacer's Dannie Granger answered back also with his three point shot. Teammate Antwan Jamison had 34.

With the win Sunday night, the team’s confidence has certainly been given a boost.

“We need to turn this thing around going into the second half of the season”, said Butler. "I’m an All Star", Butler reiterated in subliminial-like fashion.

Hey, NBA execs, get this guy a spot on the All Star team! He's deserving.

The Wizards have struggled all year with team injuries, injuries that have contributed to the team’s 11-40 record on the season, and the League's last place status they now share with the Sacramento Kings.

On the flip side of things former Washington Wizard guard, Roger Mason, Jr., who sought (but failed to get) more playing time in Washington, continues his terrific scoring capabilities as part of the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs beat the defending world champions, Boston Celtics, 105-99, and are ranked first in the Southwest division.

Note to coaches everywhere. If you've got a good player on your team who has proven scoring capabilities, DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT trade him/her. Just give them the playing time they're requesting.

**Side bar.** Playing with the flu isn't fun; but helping your team win, even when you're not feeling well, is a true testament of team spirit and commitment.
