Holiday Giving Continues

Last week, DC UrbanSports told you about Washington Redskins’ Antwaan Randle El giving coats to students at Concord Elementary school in Falls Church, Virginia.

We told you about the Redskins transforming the Redskins locker room at FedEx Field into Santa’s toy workshop for the Redskins/Marine Corps Toys For Tots toy giveaway for over 17 area schools.

We also told you about the Washington Wizards' Brendan Haywood taking 300 moms out to lunch at Georgia Brown’s restaurant for a holiday meal.

The spirit of holiday giving continued today as Wizards’, Caron Butler blessed each and every student at Ferebee-Hope Elementary School in South East, DC with a brand new bike.

Students received either a brand new, shiny Huffy, or Roadmaster bike, (complete with helmet) - courtesy of Caron, and Walmart of Stafford, VA.

Ferebee has roughly 260 students and both the students and staff were delighted to have Caron purchase the bikes just in time for Christmas.

“I’m overwhelmed”, said Ferebee principal, Sharron Stroman.

“I am overwhelmed that Mr. Butler thought so highly of our students. We’re over here in an impoverished area in Ward 8, an area that‘s often overlooked. So, for someone to present such an enormous gift to our students, this really warms my heart.”

“Our students don’t have a lot, so this is really going to make their holiday wonderful”, added Stroman.

The students even received tickets to an upcoming Wizards home game.

This year makes the second year Caron and the Wizards have given back to the school.

Last year, the Wizards and Butler took fifty students from Ferebee-Hope to the Spirit of Halloween halloween store.

The entire establishment was open, in celebrity-like fashion, just for the students so they could shop for Halloween costumes.
