Mystics Edged Out By Chicago Sky

August 29, 2008 - Mystics lose to Chicago Sky after coming off an Olympic break, 75-79, in a nail-biting, down-to-the-wire contest.

The Mystics hustled hard in the fourth quarter, gaining points off steals and turnovers from their opponent, and trading lead changes, respectively.

However, fouls from the Mystics’ Crystal Langhorne, and Monique Currie (who fouled out with six) sent the Chicago Sky to the free-throw line at least three times in the last minute of the game.

Monique scored 16 points overall on the night for the Mystics, enabling her to reach 1,004 career points.

Alana Beard earned 18 points on the night.

The Sky’s Jia Perkins was the lead scorer for her team with 28, followed by 20 points and 13 rebounds from Syliva Fowles.

The Mystics are currently 10-17 on the season and will have one last chance to improve that standing when they face the Minnesota Lynx September 14, in the last home game of the regular season.

The game, which starts at 4 pm, is Mystics Fan Appreciation Night and will offer $1 hot dogs.
