Mystics Playoff Bound!

August 6, 2007 – Washington, D.C.

Mystics fever is spreading even more as the ladies continue to win big in the East with back-to-back home wins over both New York Liberty (Friday, 8/3) and Chicago Sky (Sunday, 8/5).

In Friday’s contest against New York, Mystics DeLisha Milton-Jones pumped in 20 points and 10 rebounds while teammate, Alana Beard contributed 18 in an 80-65 win.

Guard Monique CurryMystics guard, Monique Curry dished in 12 points, just two ahead of DeLisha-Milton Jones’ double-double of 10 points and 10 ‘bounds.

New York’s Janel McCarville was the team’s high scorer with twelve points.

The Mystics lost twice this season to New York. Friday’s win over New York made the age-old adage ‘the third time’s the charm’ quite fitting, and made New York the lowest-ranking team (11-16) in the WNBA so far.

In Sunday’s game against the Chicago Sky, the Mystics defeated their rivals 71-66.

Alana Beard had 18 points while Coco Miller added 16 to help make the win the second of the weekend.

Former Mystics, Chasity Melvin (traded to Chicago earlier in the season) had 14 points and 12 rebounds. (Read DC Urban Sports interview with Chasity Melvin.)

Chicago, winning just four of its last 13 games, is hopeful to win a spot in the playoffs.

The Mystics, 12-16, moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference ahead of their two rivals Chicago and New York.

Interim coach, Tree Rollins, when asked if he was optimistic about the playoffs said, "Yes. We are optimistic about the playoffs. We've got hard road games coming up, and we're just looking to get through those games."

The ladies begin their five-game road trip with San Antonio on August 7th, continuing through the week with games in L.A., Seattle, and Sacramento before returning home to play Connecticut on August 14th.
