Mystics Alana Beard Gets 'Player of the Week' Honors

August 7, 2007 - Alana Beard of the Washington Mystics and Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, July 30 through Sunday, August 5.

Beard averaged 19 points, five rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 steals and shot 46 percent (23-for-50) from the field and 73 percent (8-for-11) from the free throw line as the Mystics posted a 2-1 record on the week. The team currently maintains the fourth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

On August 3, Beard recorded a game-high 24 points, along with seven rebounds, four assists, four steals, and converted 10-for-18 field goals and 3-for-4 free throws in an 80-68 victory over the New York Liberty.

Two days later, she led the Mystics to another win with 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal vs. the Chicago Sky (71-66). The victory moved the Mystics into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, one spot ahead of the Sky.

Beard currently ranks third in the league in steals with two per game and fifth in points with 18.3 per game.

She is 43 points shy of 2,000 career points.
