D.C. Loses Boxing Chairman

This is perhaps the most eerie event I've had to write about to date.

I just finished posting in the DC Urban Sports blog about the upcoming September return of MMA. I surf on over to Boxing Along The Beltway, home of Gary "Digital" Williams' D.C. boxing blog spot, to see what's new in boxing.

It is there that I learned of the passing of D.C. Boxing Chairman, Dr. A.W. McKnight.

D.C. Boxing Chair A.W. McKnight

Dr. McKnight, instrumental in sanctioning the MMA event in the Nation's Capital earlier this year, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 31st.

After the MMA championships I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. McKnight about the event where he stated that he was pleased with the event's success. He introduced me to his young son, Woody, and began proudly (as only a proud Dad could) telling me about his son's accomplishments as the number one ranked amateur youth tennis player.

DC Urban Sports is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. McKnight, and sends prayers and thoughts of comfort to the family during this difficult time.
