Martina Hingis Added to Friday, July 21st Star-Studded Match!
Treat Huey will join the Kastles for his third season this summer.
Throughout the ten-year history of the Washington Kastles franchise, the team has achieved a long list of incredible milestones: Six King Trophies as league champion, the only two undefeated seasons in the league's 42-season history, a North American professional sports record 34-match win streak, three Coach of the Year awards for head coach Murphy Jensen, five league MVP awards, six finals MVP awards, and home matches featuring eight different world #1 ranked players in singles and doubles.
But never before have the Kastles entered a season with a lineup like this one.
And to top it off, the Kastles just re-signed Alexandria native and University of Virginia legend Treat Huey to return this summer for his third season and will form a DC Dream Team with Frances Tiafoe for the first week of the season. Both Huey and Tiafoe trained as kids growing up in the Washington area at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, MD before launching successful pro careers on the ATP Tour. The duo will be inspiring role models for young Kastles fans this summer who can watch the home-grown pair playing for their hometown team. Huey previously helped lead Washington to the league title in 2012 and will look to add another Championship ring to his collection.
On the ATP World Tour, Treat has established himself as one of the most formidable doubles players in men's tennis. He finished 2016 with a year-end doubles ranking of #22 in the world. With a career winning percentage of .615, Huey's won doubles titles on every surface, including Acapulco (hard), Estoril (clay), St. Petersburg (indoor hard), Eastbourne (grass), and reached the quarters of the Australian and US Opens (2016, 2014, 2013) and the semis of Wimbledon last year, where he and his partner Max Mirnyi lost in an epic five-setter to the #2 world ranked Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, 4-6 6-3 7-6(3) 4-6 4-6.
"I'm real excited to be back on the team this summer," said Huey. "It means a lot to me to be able to put on the Kastles uniform and play in front of not only great Kastles fans but family and friends that have always supported me since I was growing up playing junior tennis not too far down the road."

In addition, Martina Hingis, fresh off her highly successful European clay court season, which included winning both the Madrid and Rome doubles titles, and a semifinal run at Roland Garros, has signed on to play a third match for the Kastles, on Friday, July 21 vs. Billie Jean King's Philadelphia Freedoms. By playing a third match, Hingis will qualify for the WTT Finals which will be held on Saturday, August 5 at La Costa, California, should the Kastles qualify.
"We want to put the best possible team on the court every night as a commitment to our city and our incredibly loyal fans," said team owner Mark Ein. "Martina is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and we really appreciate her steadfast commitment to the Kastles over many years. And bringing back another local talent in Treat to play alongside Frances Tiafoe is a homegrown DC dream team that will inspire kids and thrill all our fans for the entire first week."
