Mayweather, Maidana to tour-stop in DC to promote September 13th rematch

(DC UrbanSports) - Eleven-time world champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) and former world champion Marcos "El Chino" Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs) are slated to make an appearance in the nation's capital to promote their upcoming rematch scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas live, and on SHOWTIME PPV®

Mayweather, 37, won by unanimous decision over Maidana during their first meeting earlier this year on May 3rd.

The pair will make a stop at Constitution Hall on Monday, July 14th at 7 pm.  Washington is the second in a five-city tour that includes New York, San Antonio, TX, and Chicago on July 15, culminating with a stop in Los Angeles on July 17 (Maidana's birthday).

Fighter quotes:

"Marcos Maidana is a tough customer and he gave me a fight that had me work for the victory," said Mayweather. "His style is difficult at best, but with experience comes a way and will to win. I'm not one to give second chances in the ring, but I want to give the fans what they want to see. I will be as prepared as I always am when I step in the ring on September 13. I only see the outcome one way and that's another successful night for me and my team."

Mayweather was nominated this year for ESPYS Best Male Athlete.

"The rematch with Mayweather is the only fight that really motivates me," said thirty year-old Maidana. "I feel I earned it in the ring and Floyd owed it to me. I've already proved that I don't care if the man I have in front of me is the best pound-for-pound champion. I was close to ending his reign last time. On September 13 he will not get away undefeated."

Maidana defeated DC fighter DeMarcus 'Chop' Corley in 2010, and is coming off a 2013 win (unanimous decision) over Adrian Bronner.  Maidana lost to noted fighters Andreas Kotelnik (2012), Amir Khan (2012), and Devon Alexander (2012).

Interesting to note
You must take note of the venue sizes whenever Mayweather comes to Washington.  Since we've been covering his DC tour stops, he has gone from venues like the Lincoln Theater to the Howard Theatre, to DAR Constitution hall, showing his increasing fan base here in the DMV, as well as a growing interest in his opponents.
