SNEAK PEEK: Redskins/Bon Secours Training Camp Grand Opening!

After much anticipation, the Washington Redskins' new training facility in Richmond, Virginia is scheduled to open on Monday, July 8th for its 'official' viewing party.



Scheduled to join the festivities are embattled Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones, and the voice of the Washington Redskins, Larry Michael.  Also expected to appear for the celebration is former Redskin quarterback Joe Theismann, other alumni and current roster players.

The training center is located at 2401 West Leigh Street in  Richmond, just behind the Richmond Children's Museum.

The $10 million Training Center includes two full-size natural grass fields, a natural grass drill field, spectator areas, locker rooms and a high-tech training room. Bon Secours Virginia Health System also will ensure the facility serves as a valuable year-round resource for the community when camp is not in session. They will operate the facility as a full-service sports medicine rehabilitation and men’s health center on the property throughout the year, in addition to offering fitness and education programs. The facility also will be home to movin’ mania, Bon Secours’ healthy kids initiative.

Training camp opens July 25th for the Washington Redskins and is scheduled to feature 17 days of practice to accommodate fans, leading up to the August 3rd Fan Appreciation Day.  [

Said one Redskins fan on moving the training camp to Richmond, Virginia, "I don't mind, if it will help them win games."

Guests' gift bags included several Redskin/Bon Secours memorabilia to include a white rally rag, cup holder, mini Redskins helmet and a blue fold up seat cushion, just in time for training camp. No mention of free game tickets although Redskin jerseys were presented to the mayor of Richmond and an official of Bon Secours.
