Howard Coach on the win: "We needed this."
The Howard University Bison defeated the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers 30-27 in the inaugural AT&T Nation's Football Classic ™. This was the fourth straight win for Howard University in the all-time series between the two schools and the first win for Howard's current coach Gary Harrell.
Said Harrell the team's win, "Morehouse is a tough opponent and a great win for us going into conference play. It was my first win as a head coach and it was important for the team."
The team was 0-1 coming into the game against Morehouse.
Howard freshman quarterback Greg McGhee was voted by the media MVP of the game.
He spoke on Howard's come back to defeat the Tigers.
"We were just giving them points in the first half. I just had to get the butterflies out. As the game went on I was more comfortable. I did my job. Executed.
The freshman threw for three touchdowns completing 22 of 29 for 248 yards to help Howard come from behind to win the first annual AT&T National National Classic, labeled 'More Than A Game' that saw three days of Howard v Morehouse activities including a step show, student debate, and kickoff rally.
Celebrities and alum, the likes which included Sean 'Diddy' Combs, and Cosby Show's Keisha Knight Pulliam ('Rudy Huxtable'), a Spelman grad, also supported the event.
