Kasten To Step Down As Nats' President

More Demise For Washington Baseball

No details on why Nats' president Stan Kasten is leaving his beloved Washington Nationals baseball team.

However, the team has confirmed his decision to step down at the end of this year.

"Stan Kasten will always be an important part of the history of the Washington Nationals," principal owner Ted Lerner said in a statement issued by the club. "He was vital to ownership winning its bid from Major League Baseball and his agreement to serve as the team's chief executive for the last five years has been critical to building the Washington Nationals franchise."

The Nats (64-88) have 12 loses this month with just 7 wins and struggled to stay on a winning track, even before (and with) the addition of Steven Strasburg to the roster, who is now out with injury to his pitching arm.

Strasburg had Tommy John surgery earlier this month after tearing in his ulnar collateral ligament sustained against Philadelphia on Aug. 21,

The Nats also lost manager, Manny Acta before the start of the 2010 season.
