2010 Season Opener October 2nd!
After a summer of regional competition on the road, the first ladies of the track open their fifth season at the DC Armory on Saturday, October 2, the Washington Convention and Sports Authority (WCSA) and the DC Rollergirls (DCRG) announced today.
Season 5 promises amazing roller derby, new players and fierce competition as the District’s own all-female roller derby league brings hard-hitting skate action to thousands of fans each month. This year, the DC Armory will host six regular season bouts with the league championship set for Saturday, May 14. In addition, the DC All-Stars, comprised of members from all three D.C. teams, will compete in three non-league bouts, two of them doubleheaders with DCRG bouts.
“Over the past four years, the DC Rollergirls have become fan favorites at the DC Armory,” said Erik A. Moses, managing director of the WCSA’s Sports, Entertainment and Special Events Division. “Fans look forward to the intense action, high energy and overall great atmosphere they find at each Rollergirls’ bout, and we are excited to welcome them to the DC Armory for another competitive season.”
The DC DemonCats begin defense of their back-to-back championship titles in a match-up against the Cherry Blossom Bombshells on October 2. The first clash between the league’s last two champions is December 18 when the DemonCats take on Scare Force One.
Last season, the DC Rollergirls brought their fans cupcakes, circus acts, zombies, tailgating and hours of intense roller derby action. This year, fans can expect added excitement and the same hard-hitting action they’ve grown to love.
