The Washington Mystics won the Eastern Conference regular season championship and earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference following a 90-81 victory over the Atlanta Dream.
"We know winning the regular season conference championship isn't the big prize, but it is as great first step towards our ultimate goal. The distance we have come as an organization the past two years is a testament to Angela Taylor, Julie Plank, our players and our staff,” stated Mystics Chief Operating Officer, Greg Bibb.
A great first step that should be recognized as more than just "a step towards our ultimate goal".
Check these stats: The win was the first time in franchise history that the Mystics have been the number one seed in post season play. Washington also recorded its first 20+ win season. This is also the first time the Mystics have reached the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
In the 90-81 win over Atlanta, Mystics' Monique Curry scored 20 points. Crystal Langhorne had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Washington led the first three quarters before the Dream tried to rally in the fourth, outscoring the Mystics 30-16.
