Kastles Stadium to Host Seven Home Matches, Celebrity Match and Other Events

The Washington Kastles, the defending World TeamTennis (WTT) champions, announced during a press conference today that all individual and season tickets are now available for their July 2010 return to Kastles Stadium, located at 11th and H Streets, NW in the heart of downtown DC.

The third season at Kastles Stadium also will play host to an expanded entertainment schedule featuring a July 19 celebrity tennis match featuring professional athletes, politicians and members of the media, the 9th annual Big Tigger Celebrity Classic basketball tournament, the 2nd annual DC Summer Pro Am Boxing Showcase and for the third straight year, the Street Soccer USA World Cup.

Kastles Stadium’s capacity will be 2,500 for the 2010 season, with a new VIP Club Dinner Table section added to the north end of the stadium. Individual match ticket prices begin as low as $15, while season tickets can be purchased for as little as $150.

“We are looking forward to another exciting season as we defend our championship at Kastles Stadium on our spectacular downtown site in front of the best fans in the league,” said team owner Mark Ein. “Building on our first two years of great success, we expect this to be our best season yet both on the court and in the community.”

The Kastles are expected to compete again for the league’s King Trophy, named for league founder Billie Jean King. The roster includes Serena and Venus Williams, the top-two ranked women in the world and returns 2009 WTT Men’s MVP Leander Paes and doubles ace Rennae Stubbs, who formed the league’s top-ranked mixed doubles team in 2009.

Ein and Jensen were joined at the press conference by Mayor Adrian Fenty and Councilman Jack Evans, both of whom have become Kastles fans since the franchise’s inaugural 2008 season.

“It's a great pleasure for the District to have a team like the Washington Kastles. They deserve recognition not only for their success on the court, but also for their dedication to our city and its young people,” said Mayor Fenty.

Individual tickets for all seven home matches can be purchased through the Kastles website by visiting www.washingtonkastles.com or Ticketmaster. Season tickets and group sales can be purchased by calling 202-4-TENNIS (483-6647).

“Sports brings people together and is important for a city’s image,” said Councilman Jack Evans. “The Kastles brought D.C. its most recent world championship and Washingtonians want another championship in 2010.”

The Kastles home schedule kicks off on Tuesday, July 6 against the Philadelphia Freedoms and comes to a close on Wednesday, July 21 against Anna Kournikova and the St. Louis Aces. The full slate of 2010 home matches and events at Kastles Stadium is below.

“With the talent on this veteran roster, we should win it all again,” said head coach Murphy Jensen. “I know I speak for the entire team when I say that last season was one of the best experiences of our careers and we’re coming back to repeat as champions.”
